New Resolution from the Ministry of Labor Regarding First Aid Kits and Stations in the Workplace
On April 29, 2026, the Ministry of Labor announced Resolution No. 09-26, which regulates first aid kits and stations in the workplace. This resolution serves as a complementary measure to the Regulations on Occupational Safety and Health, approved by Decree No. 522-06.
This resolution focuses on the management of first aid kits and stations within workplaces, establishing conditions for maintenance, locations, minimum content, and the basic training required for those in charge of them, among other aspects. The resolution considers the variation in risks and the number of employees within companies to define these requirements.
Resolution and Application
Some key points of the resolution include the following:
- It establishes three types of first aid kits (A, B, and C) tailored to the needs of companies ranging from lower to higher risk levels, respectively.
- The minimum number and type of first aid kits are determined based on the number of workers and the company’s risk classification (I, II, or III).
- First aid kits and stations must be integrated into the Occupational Safety and Health Management System and any actions deriving from it.
- The contents of the first aid kits must be reviewed monthly, and first aid training must be updated at least every two years.
- Employers are responsible for designating at least one trained first aid responder for every fifty employees (or fraction thereof) per work shift.
Regarding its enforcement, compliance with this resolution is mandatory for all activities subject to the Labor Code of the Dominican Republic with two or more employees, as well as in all workplaces where workers remain or visit for work-related reasons.
This resolution aims to promote workplaces that are better adapted to the health needs of their workforce!
